Ames Lightning 18U
As the newest team in the AMHA family, Ames Lightning is proud to be a part of Iowa High School Hockey Alliance (IHSHA). The IHSHA was formed in 2021 to support the growth of high school hockey in the State of Iowa for U18 athletes not part of the Midwest High School Hockey League.
As an association, AMHA has always wanted to find a place for a hockey player to have a home. Adding Ames Lightning does just that. The skill of IHSHA teams is a great opportunity to continue to play hockey and challenge players with their hockey development. Athletes who don't make a JV/V spot can strive to get better and one day make one of the MHSHL teams. It also allows athletes who prefer more recreational hockey with less commitment, both financially and physically.
Ages
High School aged players, Freshman to Seniors.
When
Registration for the upcoming season is usually in the Spring. Optional summer practices throughout the summer with regular season starting in October - February.
Where
As part of Iowa High School Hockey Alliance, Ames Lightning plays other teams around the Des Moines Metro with some games outside of the Metro.
Practices
Practices are held at Ames Ice Arena and are 2-3 times per week.
Costs
Initial Registration Fee: $500
Remaining Registration Fee 26/27: TBD
Jerseys, socks and warm up gear is an additional cost to each player.
