NEW HS Alliance Team!

Ames Minor Hockey Association (AMHA) is so excited to welcome Ames Lightning to our family! As the newest team in the AMHA family, Ames Lightning is proud to be a part of Iowa High School Hockey Alliance (IHSHA). The IHSHA was formed in 2021 to support the growth of high school hockey in the State of Iowa for U18 athletes not part of the Midwest High School Hockey League.

As an association, AMHA has always wanted to find a place for a hockey player to have a home. Adding Ames Lightning does just that. The skill of IHSHA teams is a great opportunity to continue to play hockey and challenge players with their hockey development. Athletes who don't make a JV/V spot can strive to get better and one day make one of the MHSHL teams. It also allows athletes who prefer more recreational hockey with less commitment, both financially and physically.
