SafeSport Training

** If you are new to AMHA this coming season (2015-2016) or otherwise have not completed the SafeSport Training last season, you may need to complete it prior to this season as indicated below**

USA Hockey has a requirement for those involved in youth hockey that have regular, routine or frequent access to, or supervision over, youth participants.  This requirement mandates that certain persons/positions will need to complete the SafeSport Training that is offered through USA Hockey.  Those indicated in the following positions will need to complete the training:

Requirements for Local Program Administrators:  "Each local program registering youth players shall be required to have at least one representative complete the online training each year. Local programs are strongly encouraged to have all of their officers, directors and other key representatives complete the online training."

Requirements for Coaches:  "Commencing with the 2014-15 playing season, all coaches shall be required to complete the SafeSport Training Program every two years. New coaches shall take the training during their first year of registration and every two years thereafter."

Requirements for Officials:  "Commencing with the 2014-15 playing season, all officials eighteen (18) and over shall be required to complete the SafeSport Training Program every two years. New officials eighteen (18) and over shall take the training during their first year of registration and every two years thereafter."

Requirements for Other Volunteers:  "All volunteers and employees in USA Hockey Member Programs that will have regular, routine or frequent access to or supervision over minor participants, and all persons in a supervisory position of a USA Hockey Member Program, shall be required to complete the SafeSport Training Program as a condition of being appointed to such position. Volunteers and employees that have less regular, non-routine or infrequent access to minor participants are strongly encouraged to complete the SafeSport Training."

TRAINING IS VALID FOR TWO YEARS

The Safesport Training is valid for two seasons.  If a volunteer or coach completed the training for the 2013-14 season, he or she will not need to take the training again until the 2015-16 season.  A shorter "refresher" course is planned to be available.

WHEN TO COMPLETE THE TRAINING

The training is required for the current season, so if you have not completed it, please do so at once.  In addition to the safety aspects of things, we want to avoid any possible issues with rosters or other such things.

HOW TO COMPLETE THE REQUIRED TRAINING

Go to USA Hockey's SafeSport site to complete the program.  This is an on-line video program that requires approximately 90 minutes of your time.  One does not need to complete the entire training in one session.  You do need a current USA Hockey Registration number in order to enroll.  If you do not currently have one, you can obtain one at no cost at http://www.usahockeyregistration.com if you are registering as an Ice Manager/Volunteer.
