To positively engage local youth in the fundamentals of hockey through:
The Ames Minor Hockey Association (AMHA) was founded in 1973 and began competition during the 1974-1975 Season. Skaters range from three years to 18 years old. AMHA currently has skaters from Story, Boone, Hamilton, Jasper, Marshall, and Polk counties.
The motivating factor for most children who enter an organized youth sports program is their desire to have fun, which is particularly true with young children, many of whom are newcomers to youth sports. With a supportive attitude and a fundamental understanding of the "basics" of ice hockey, everyone will come away with a positive feeling.
League divisions include Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam and High School. Teams practice up to three times a week and games/tournaments are on weekends. The Ames Minor Hockey Association (AMHA) league divisions focus on hockey skills. Participation in the league division play is open to boys and girls who have achieved the required skills and who wish to test their skills in a competitive setting against kids of similar age and skill level.
