The Ames and Sioux Falls/Sioux City Community, as well as the hockey community lost a special person on June23rd, as Sioux Falls High School Coach and former Iowa State and Ames Hockey player TJ Riensch suddenly passed away. TJ's family was actively involved in the Ames Hockey community until they relocated to Sioux City Iowa. The Ames Hockey Family will be honoring TJ in numerous ways in 2010-2011 and beyond. The details regarding TJ's passing are below. We extend our heart felt sympathies to TJ's wife Laura and his parents and all of his extended family.

======================================================================================================

Thomas J. Reinsch known by all as (TJ), passed away unexpectedly early
Wed. morning at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. TJ was first
a father and husband to a loving wife Laura, and two wonderful children
Olivia (6) and Thomas J (Jack) (3). He shared with the rest of our
community his love and passion for the game of hockey. Serving in
various positions in the Sioux Falls Youth Hockey Association (SFYHA) he
was most widely known for his coaching abilities. His instruction was
and will continue to be integral in shaping young players into becoming
better by the challenges he set forth.

He offered his talents to the South Dakota State Amateur Hockey
Association and served as assistant coach for the National U14 team and
was currently working with the U16 team for the 2011 year. This year
alone, in our association, he served on the SFYHA Board of Directors and
was recognized as "Director of Coaches" He also coached the Sioux Falls
Flyers in their "inaugural" year representing the Midwest High School
Hockey League where they finished the year as the only team in Midwest
history to be represented in the State Tournament in their "inaugural"
year.

In his day TJ was an avid hockey player whose talents took him into the
realm of the USHL playing briefly with the Sioux City Musketeers and
ultimately continuing his hockey talents with the Iowa State Cyclones in
Ames IA. He graduated from ISU with a degree in Business, worked various
jobs throughout his career that took him from San Jose, CA. to First
Premier Bank Systems in Sioux Falls, SD. He was most recently employed
by EMC in Omaha NE.

TJ was admitted last week to Sanford Medical Center where he was being
treated for a suspected auto-immune disorder (Thrombotic
Thrombocytopenic Purpura) a condition that involves an inability to form
platelets. Tragically, and with little warning, his body succumbed to
the disease and he passed away in the early morning hours of Wed. June
23, 2010.

We would like to honor his life, his family and his many years of hockey
involvement. We would love to hear memories and tributes to him and will
pass them on for our friend who is no longer with us, but whose memories
we will carry forever. We would like to ask you all to keep the family
in your prayers in this difficult time.

Tributes are being written on South Dakota Sports Talk at

We have all been blessed to have been part of his life. Our best to you
TJ, may your "new" hockey team welcome the wonderful person who was so
much a part of our lives.

Funeral Arrangements are being handled through Meyer Brothers, Funeral
Home in Sioux City IA. A preliminary date for the funeral ceremony will
be on Monday June 28th at 11:00 am at St. Boniface Church in Sioux City
IA. Attendees are asked to wear a hockey jersey in recognition of TJ's
love of the game. Further announcements will be made and confirmed as
available.
